Apartment house - not a place for minihotel
The government of Petersburg declared the beginning of total check of minihotels of a city. Officials, in particular, don't like hotels which are located in apartment houses.
All minihotels of Petersburg will "is total" are checked up prior to the beginning of a summer season, has promised Valentine Matvienko's governor. Council about small business and Council about tourism will be involved in check by the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of Petersburg, committee on investments and strategic projects (supervises tourism in Petersburg). The authorities of Petersburg keep development of small hotels, has declared Valentine Matvienko but if "in usual apartment houses minihotels which and a fire service don't correspond to requirements of Sanepidnadzora such minihotels shouldn't be" open.

Really, it is necessary to notice that hotel "Arkadia" has passed voluntary certification of conformity and has the status of hotel of 4 stars. Such certificate is available only for few small hotels of a city, the majority of minihotels of St.-Petersburg are hotels of room type (are on floors of apartment houses, so-called, furnished rooms). The difference on service and safety level between the present hotel and minihotel of room type is obvious. Frequently premises of small hotels don't correspond to firemen and the sanitary code, work illegally, and sometimes under them brothels disappear. Dear visitors, be attentive at a placing choice!

"Arkadia" hotel and "A-tours" travel company took part in the International tourism exhibition WTM, which took place from November 6 to November 9 in London. This exhibition was visited by a record number of professionals of tourism industry - 48211 people from more than 202 regions. The ambassador of Russian Federation in Great Britain Mr. Fedotov and deputy head of Federal Agency for Tourism Mrs.Shengeliya visited the exposition on November 8, 2006.
During WTM 2006 all those who would like to visit our country or send their customers to Russia received detailed information about all the suggestions and special offers of Russian companies. Contracts with major firms were signed in the course of the negotiations.
Within the exhibition the ceremony "Global Travel Award" was held, where "Arkadia" hotel and "A-tours" travel company were represented among the nominees.

Last September a new underground station “Delovoy centre” was opened close to “Expocentre”. Every 15 minutes special trains go there from “Kievskaya” station, taking turns with ordinary trains moving along Filiovskaya line. It takes 3 minutes to get from there to the exhibition.

A lot of mini-hotels have appeared in St. Petersburg over the last few years guests of the Northern capital have to choose from. The key hotel requirements are obvious — good quality of service, comfort, convenient location and security. Just a few mini-hotels in St. Petersburg combine all these qualities. One of such impeccable hotels is Arkadia, a comfortable mini-hotel situated in the historical center of St. Petersburg. Our correspondent interviewed its director Oleg Rumyantsev:
Our hotel is situated in the downtown area of St. Petersburg, in the oldest Admiralty district famous for its history. Within a five minute walk you will find St Isaac’s Cathedral, Bronze Horseman and Nevsky Prospect. However, despite the proximity of these sightseeing attractions, our hotel is situated in a very calm and quiet place. The building on the Moyka River embankment, which now houses Arcadia, was once home to Dmitry Shostakovich. Concerts of classical music were frequently given in the courtyard.
We are now renovating the courtyard to give it back its previous glory.
What rooms do you offer and what is the difference between Arcadia and other mini-hotels in St. Petersburg?
The hotel has 15 rooms in the categories standard, comfort and de lux. All rooms are characterized by excellent design and equipment including cozy rugs, pictures on the walls, redwood parquet and stylish Italian tiles. I can also mention Swiss bathroom equipment and all other requisite fixtures. In Arcadia, special attention is paid to everything — from the quality of water in bathrooms and swimming-pool (we use a special cleaning system) to slippers and toothpicks. Our guests are people belonging to the middle class and upper class. Workplaces with Internet access are offered to business people. As regards the distinguishing features of Arkadia, it should be noted that from the very beginning we have chosen a fundamental method of work — we took a non-residential apartment building and turned it into a hotel. We have a special hotel certificate, while most of mini-hotels in St. Petersburg are just furnished rooms. The difference in quality between our hotel and furnished accommodations is quite obvious.
How important are security issues for you ?
Safe accommodation in Arcadia is our distinguishing feature. First of all, we have very stringent procedures of guest registration. Anyone can stay at furnished rooms without identification, while all our guests have to produce relevant documents (passport, visa) and fill in a questionnaire which we send to the Passport Office. This is especially important after the recent tragic events in our country.
Discussing financial issues, how profitable is Arcadia in the conditions of the contemporary hotel business?
$1.5 mln. has been invested into Arcadia. Considering the hotel’s present efficiency, the amount will be repaid in eight years. We are now creating and building up our image and reputation, and we have already been successful in this — our guests who have stayed at Arcadia keep returning to us.
What additional facilities does your hotel offer?
Arcadia has an own restaurant with an excellent European and Russian cuisine. We can offer each customer a special individual menu which will satisfy any taste. At night the restaurant offers live music including concerts of guitar, cello and other instruments. The hotel also has a sauna and an excellent swimming-pool with a counterflow, geyser and fountain. We also have our own laundry. An important line in hotel development is business tourism, and Arcadia can offer its guests a conference hall. We also organize special programs for newly-weds who are fond of staying with us. Arcadia has all prerequisites to make newly-weds’ stay in our city as nice and romantic as possible. They are offered special rooms, discounts, individual menus, gifts, champagne and cakes. I think the main feature of Arcadia is the individual approach to each guest. Without love and respect you have nothing to do in hotel business.
